Most likely reason that Dave's car didn't start this morning

it was -22 degrees (when the forecast said it should be -6, so the block heater wasn't plugged in)

most likely your battery is wearing out. If it has sat cold and discharged for a few hours this will permanently damage some cells in the battery, giving you less power for starting. Canadian tire does battery load tests for free.

Without actually hearing what it was doing, or getting a more detailed description from Dave, I can' diagnose it from a province away. I'm usually decent at figuring out what the problem is, but I have to be able to listen and observe to do so.
