Those illegal VCRs
I'm certain that the vast majority of Canadians don't know that when they tape a program for later viewing using a PVR or even VCR, that is a copyright infringement in Canada and they're potentially subject to a lawsuit for undertaking that activity. It's not against copyright law in the U.S., it's not in Australia, it's not in Japan or the U.K., and it's been going on for decades here and shouldn't be a copyright infringement (here) either.

No personal use?
I thought things like that (and, for example, making a burned copy of a CD for in the car) were covered under personal use exemptions. I was under the impression that one could copy music and such for your own use, as long as you don't distribute (or ask for money for) the copies.
I'm not crazy...oh, wait, nevermind.

We're talking VCRs and PVRs
We're talking VCRs and PVRs here. Personal copying of music is covered in a section of the Canadian Copyright Act
