The role of the web

"When you give up control, you gain influence." - Mark Driscoll

In some commentary earlier this year, Justin Taylor suggested that the internet was a prominent factor in the resurgence of Calvinism. By and large it seems as though people falling under the Calvinist umbrella have been amongst the best in terms of making things freely and easily available.

Today, Desiring God, one such organization, posted a statement on its website about providing open access. Now if only folks in control of translations like the NIV (with its relatively restrictive copyright policy) would pay attention to it.

BTW, the Desiring God blog followed up their statement about open access with responses to a number of common objections.
