Those annoying 1-in-4 claims

Been seeing more of posters advocating that 1-in-4 women in college are sexual assaulted during their time there. Compare to some official data:

For 2010, the US Census reported roughly 6.7 million women enrolled in post-secondary education.

For 2010, the US Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics Criminal Victimization report estimated 188,380 instances of rape/sexual assault (both reported and unreported).

You do the math.

(US higher education institution are obliged by law to release local reports of crime, and you can search for statistics online. Less than 10,000 sexual assaults connected in any way to any US higher education institution were reported for 2010).
